You all know how much I've been swooning over these super delish candles of late, this week I took some time out with Nicky Sandover, founder of Perth-based, soy wax candle business, Coconut Gypsy.
We’re excited to announce that as of this week, these beautiful candles will be in studio, these little babies make gorgeous Christmas gifts :-p
Among other things we chatted about, I asked Nicky ‘…why soy wax?’ and this was her response:
There’s a few reasons why I like to use soy wax for our candles, but I’ll give you just three to keep things concise!
Soy wax is made from vegetable oil, which means it doesn’t produce the petrol-carbon soot that paraffin candles create, and releases no known carcinogens into the air.
Burns for Longer
Soy wax burns cooler which means that they last up to 50% times longer than standard paraffin candles. When we started testing out our candles we were so surprised at how long it took for even a reasonably small candle to burn down.
Renewable & Biodegradable
Soy wax as the name suggests come from the oil of a soy bean, which is a naturally grown plant that is farmed throughout the world. It is sustainable and completely renewable, and of course naturally biodegradable.
So if all this is the case, why do people still use paraffin wax??? Easy, paraffin is a petroleum by-product and as a result, it is incredibly inexpensive to buy compared with soy wax.
Nicky Sandover is a super babein' singer, songwriter, candle creator and life lover. Check out her upcoming gigs and her signature Early Surf candle scent at Alchemy.
